I consider myself extremely lucky to have been struck with the love of metal smithing and to be a maker of gifts we give ourselves and each other for beautification and empowerment.
I studied architecture before realizing that my interest in designing objects of comfort and beauty could be more immediately realized through jewelry and metal smithing. Since 2006, I have enrolled myself in a multitude of jewelry-making classes which have lined themselves up as stepping stones according to my evolving and creative interests.
I enjoy the hypnotic alchemy of metal + gemstones + fire + water. Through spontaneous design, creative hand-forging and intentional fabrication, my work results in jewelry precious with meaning that appeals to the eye as well as the soul.
Kaya Sattva Jewelry is crafted in my home studio near Lake Merritt Oakland, with my own two hands one piece at a time or in small batches. Each piece that I create is labor + love intensive. All are made durably to last many years of wear. Few are more delicate than others, however, and require your gentler care.
My most rewarding moments as a jeweler are the times when I get to see how someone's look is immediately transformed in some lovely way as soon as they try on what was seemingly made for them.

My practices of sustainability include much consideration to how objects might last many years of wear. Many of the materials found in Spiritjoy Designs come from eco-conscious sources, re-purposed jewelry, and private stashes of recycled metals. Each piece is personally handcrafted, soldered and rusticated with care using low impact and biodegradable supplies.

"Thanks to everybody who will continue to work with the spirit of a craftsman, and without whom we will never realize our fantasy."

"I recently got married and was looking for the perfect unique bridesmaids gifts. I saw Kaya's jewelry in Atomic Garden on College Ave. and loved her hammered silver pieces. I contacted her to make me eight pieces. She was so pleasant to work with, affordable and flexible. I chose 4 different styles and my bridesmaids loved their jewelry and want more! She also was willing to re-size one of the bracelets. Thank you so much Kaya!"
